I have a 2004 Ford Escape Limited 6 cyl and my milage has blown from the start. I get about 215 - 230 miles per tank. I took it back and they ran the "milage test" with a device connected to the engine while they drove it around. Guess what? They said it gets 22 mph. Ford has ignored this problem since the vehicle came out and has never met the posted milage figures. I live in DC and gas prices are a joke. I am ****ed!
Hellion I Know What You Mean.i Have E-mailed Ford About The Problem ,but To No Satisfaction The Results Are The Same As You.guess What? The Autoshow Comes To Chicago And I Will Be Right Next To The Ford Display And I Won't Be Nice About What I Say About That Truck.
I have a 2001 escape amd I never get over 210 miles to a tank. I am lucky to get 197 miles. Is there something wrong with this? I knew it wasn't great but how many miles should I get?
ok
ran it as dry as i dared today
261 miles mostly hiway(90%) some cold weather idling to keep warm
tank took 15.258 gallons
truck has about 8000 miles on it, v6, auto, 4wd
all in all i'd say it's ok mileage
hey bannana boat what size motor do you have and is it 2wd or 4wd ?
It's the 3.0 V6 FWD. Actually, I filled up Tuesday and was just shy of 26mpgs but I drive all highway miles (60 miles each way) outside of rush hour traffic.
The spouse has an Accord with a 3.0 V6 that we bought the same day as the Escape and has the same horsepower. The best I can get out of it is 22mpgs even though it's rated 1mpg higher than the Escape. CAFE numbers are self reporting though.

I have no idea since the majority of people don't get 24mpg+. You've got the V6 and I assume it's 2WD. Only 30k miles so plugs, etc should be okay. If you're in the northern US states then the winter blend will kill your mileage by 3-4mpgs. Most of my commute is between 60mph and 70mph+ so in town driving will drop it by 4mpg or so. I also assume you don't frequently like to hear the V6 roar (commonly have it in the 5000rpm+ range).
All I've done is replaced oil, filters and recently the plugs since I've got 85k miles. Other than during break-in, I've always got around 24mpg+. You aren't the only person with bad mpgs on the Escape but I've never heard of a "fix".
I get over 300 miles on a tank. I have my favorite gas stations so it may vary from 290-340 miles depending upon where I stop.
But those days may be over since I hit a large farm animal in the dark Friday morning. I'm waiting on an appraiser to see if the Escape has been totalled.
i came on here because i was considering an escape for the wife and thought i would post a thread on mpg. i found this one first so i didn't have to, anyway i am a ford tech and in my opinion the diag. tool for rating mpg is not a good at all. i have used this on my own truck when i was having problems and it was not an accurate tool to use. do not go by what your ford store wil tell you, the only thing i can say is have them ck for any pcm updates, this may help you and may not..
