ok i just instaled my mac intake but cannot tell weather or not it is oiled. Do they come pre-oiled or do u have to do this later? also where do u get the mac oil and cleaner or is it the same as a k&n cleaner and oil?
The way I understand it, it's very common for people to screw up and put too much oil on the filter, making a mess out of the entire intake and fouling the MAF sensor. IMO, if you can tell it's oiled, there's too much on it!
The filter is actually white. The oil is red. That's why the filter looks red.
So when you wash it, you should be able to get a fairly white filter, and when re-oiled, it should be redish, but not glossy or dripping with redness.
You don't need to worry about this in either 50,000 miles or when it's really dirty. I keep my eye on mine because a lot can happen in 50,000, so I don't mind doing it as often as necesasry.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong about the whole 'color' theory.
