I've been looking for an Excursion but I can't afford new. My wife and I went by a dealer in a close by town and they have the one I want. It's a 2004 limited v-10 with what I think is called the mineral grey exterior. It has 25,000 miles on it and they are asking $30,100 for it. So here is my question, is that a fair price? If I decided to go for it, I have a 2003 Escape with the " No Boundries" package that has 20,000 miles on it for a trade( still have 4 years left on the loan). How bad will the dealership get me if I go for it?
It better be 4X4 and it is still a little high. I bought an 03 V10 2WD Limited in Dec 03 for 30K and it was new, only 200 miles. A year old with 25K and still 30K? You need to get down a bit I think but you will be happier with it than the escape could make you. It is a big difference between the 2.
The escape has been a good vehicle but it just can't do what I need it to do sometimes. The big Ex is a compromise between my wife and I , I need something to pull my trailers but I also need something to haul around the family and the friends on trips. The Ex is a 4x4, I guess I failed to mention that.
Is there anything inparticular I should look for? Will the dealership let me see the work history on it? I guess the biggest thing is talking the wife into it. She's kind of scared of the size of it but I told her she'll love it after a while.
Well it will take a little getting used to as it is considerably bigger than the Escape...but it's nothing that a little practice and familiarity won't cure!
As for seeing the work history on it, you can insist on it...after all it's your money you are laying down. If you want to see the work history, make it a condition of the sale.
"The wife" will get used to the vehicle and you'll find that you will grow more and more to like it. In my case I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee that I loved except that it hindered me in some of the things I wanted to do and places I wanted to go because it couldn't carry the whole family comfortably. And I hate that. So I got the Ex and now I can't wait to go on long trips and go to these places I want to see!
Parking is going to be a bit of a problem for you with the Ex but it would be with anything that you got of that size. Just plan your parking strategy a bit and it will be fine.
How do you like the 5.4 in your Ex? I've read that it has to work pretty hard to move the Ex around and in the long run would get about the same mileage as the V10. Just curious for future knowledge in case this 2004 isn't in my future.
Oval I don't have a problem with my 5.4L. Yes I have heard people say that the 5.4 has to work harder to move the vehicle around and that may be so, but the 5.4 engine does everything I want it to do. Now in your case, with pulling a big boat and all, it may not be the way you want to go. But I don't pull boats or large trailers so it's fine with me. And the gas mileage loss is only a point or two probably so it's not that big a loss. And if you are buying an Excursion, gas mileage shouldn't be your primary focaus anyway! LOL!
Basically I am happy as a clam with my 5.4L Excursion...
