I am in the process of rebuilding my 400 engine with the Tim Meyer .30 over pistons, 280 comp cam, some porting of the cylinder heads. I have a couple of ?s, what needs to be done to the cylinder heads, as fars as springs, retainers, keepers, and which intake manifold would you reccomened the eldlebrock or the weiand, what stall converter? This engine is going into a mudbogger with upright headers, so it will see no sreet use. Any help would be appreciated.
You should use the springs that Comp Cams recommends. Make sure that you use one piece valves. Any performance quality retainers and keeper should be OK.
I think that the Weiand intake is better than the Edelbrock. Tim Meyer is going to Dyno his motor with both intakes and a Holley Single Plane soon.
I am not familiar with Mudbogging, but I run a 281 duration hydraulic roller on the street with a 2000 stall converter. Mudbogging might require a higher stall speed.
I am doing mine with Badger 400 flattops, Comp XE262H K-Kit, Edelbrock dual-plane intake, port/polish on heads, Holley 600 carb, Dynomax headers.
Mine's not a mudder, but it is built for torque as well as speed. I was told by a friend that a dual-plane intake was best for my setup and that the Weiand intake wasn't as good. Probably just opinion there. But the comp K-kit comes with all the stuff you need except for roller rockers.
I am going to have photos and specs of mine on my website at www.aints.net
