I already found out to not disturb the pot any more than necesary, as you said, I only pull the clinkers out that are on top and not glowing and also not to stir it up. I do try to pick uot the larger pieces of debris, but it would take all day to get all of it. I emptied out my wagon today to refill my hopper and will get some different corn from the co-op this week. I closed down my combustion blower to about 1/4 open this morning and it has done good all day, if it keeps doing good I will play with my timers to try to extend them out a bit- I was able to do it last year. Wasnt really trying to be "alternative" like eco-freak or anything , just tired of the propane company bending me over and doing me dry.

I hope all this helps, the house is warm and it is nice even heat. I have my combustion blower (force draft) open, when I closed it down I ran into problems, a friend of mine has his set about 3/4 of the way open.

I have an electric heat pump, which is efficient above 32 degrees. I usually fire up the corn furnace when temperatures stay 40 or below. Both furnaces are tied together and have a sail switch on each furnace; it closes on the one not running and opens on the furnace operating.

Glad to see a fellow corn user......you will enjoy it more once you get things worked out.

Thought I would check in and see how you are doing. We had -16 degree temps the other night and the corn burner worked great.

Is your new batch of corn working better?

John

The farmer I live next to is burning corn, not in a stove, his silo's on fire! It burnt for a week and a half. Why not use it in a fire.

I burned corn last year. Burned about 1-1/2 bushel per day ($3.00/bushel). I have to shut down my burner once a week and clean the fire pot and ashes out. When i add corn (daily) i throw in a handfull of oister shells this keeps the augers clean

I will probably burn around 150 bu. this year.....now that I know what I am doing, seeing how I went a little over the top heating last year. My heat pump is very good above 36 degrees

The shells help with your burn more than auger cleaning. I clean mine at the season end since it augers from the bottom up like an old coal stoker.

I got a fresh batch of corn last week ($1.86 bushell) from the elevator in town. Meanwhile, my auger finally plugged up with stalks and such from the last of the old load. Afew days ago we had a low of -5 before the wind chill and the furnace did just fine with the old load- the new load didnt get started untill today while we were gone- I was concerned that as the newer load worked its way through the system it might require some adjustments, but it was going fine when we got home. still running with my combustion blower only open about 1/4, timers at 2 on and 4 off, now that there is a different batch of corn in it I will try to turn timers up to 6 min off like I ran it last year.

You have to buy it in bulk or you get ripped of. Anything bagged (corn, oats, etc) is 3-5x as much as getting it loaded into your gravity box at the elevator. If you want bags, wood pellets are the way to go IMO.
