i was changing my idle speed today and i noticed the carb had a bit of play in it. I grabbed it and wiggled it and i noticed that it is loose on the plate that bolts to the intake.
The bolts to the intake/egr are tight but there are some upsidedowns screws that bolt the carb to that base and i noticed the gasket between the two was sealed and went with the play.
Is it supposed to be like this?
Now that school just finished up i can do a little work on the truck so tommorrow i am gonna tighten that Damn carb.
What would the carb being loose affect? It was still sealed to the plate there were no leaks.
Does your 300 still have the stock 1bbl carb? If it does I believe that this is a common problem. Same thing happened on my 82 F100 while my dad owned it. Put some lock tite on the bolts when you put it back together, Fred
Why did you have to adjust your idle speed, starting to idle fast? No doubt caused by the vacuum leak at the base due to it coming loose. Put lock tight on the bolts/ screws. Very common problem.
On a Carter YF - Do you me the four screws that go up from the bottom of the carb? That would be what holds the throttle body to the rest of the carb. If they are loose you'll have serious vacuum problems. You'd need to unbolt the carb to get to tighten them properly.
