HELP!! My '96 Ranger refuses to turn the dome light off even when the doors are closed. I have had to yank the fuse that controls that light to save the risk of killing my battery. For some reason the truck thinks the driver side door is open, even when it is closed and locked! Anybody out there with some advice on a fix please email me.
if i recall correctly, ford put the light cutoff switch in a dumb spot and consequently they break down and don't shut off. i believe spraying a little bit of WD-40 into your locking mech on the side of your door should do the trick.
Next time if it acts up again, don't use WD40 which will attarct dirt and will gum up again. Buy an electrical cleaner/sprayer, a little more pricy (about $4-$5 a can) but is designed for this purpose.
The door switch on my 05 went out and I went down and bought and bought a new one from the dealer, I wanna say it was about $10 , I'm probably wrong though. If you remove the door panel you can get to the switch, it's right underneather the latch mechanism. The door panel simply lifts up and the off. It took about 10 minutes to replace the switch, it's in a tight space.
