I have an 04 XLT 4x4 f-150. The front brake dust on the wheels is terrible. Is this a common problem. I am thinking about changing my brake pads right now and I only have 1100 miles on the truck. Is this something that is taken care of under warranty, or do I just go buy a set of pads and replace. My wheels are semi-black after a couple of days of driving. Thanks.
I took mine to the dealer and was told that the dust and grooved rotors are "normal".
It may be normal for these pads and rotors.....but it's like nothing I've ever seen on any other car or truck in my 41 years. If they won't do anything about it, I'll probably wind up having them replaced at my expense, but using something other the Ford parts.
Point being.....there shouldn't be a need for a brake dust cover if Ford would get it's act together and design rotors and pads that work well together.
The cover does just that. It covers a problem, but it doesn't fix it.
Dunk, Thanks for the suggestion. I just really have always hated them things. My old super duty had twice the brakes that this truck has and was alot heavier and never had brake dust or rotor problems. I think that I am going to talk to the service rep about this and if they wont address it I will try changing the pads. The truck has to go back in soon anyways because I have the dreaded vibes.
Check this thread. I changed my brake pads out to these proterfields and haven't had a spec of brake dust since. I just did the fronts. I think this is a better option than the dust shields. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=247086
