I have a 5/04 build date f250 sc 4x4 auto that I bought in october. The problem is while driving at a steady pace the engine and turbo will surge. If I diconnect the egr it will almost go away but still does it.It has about 5000 miles on it now and have had the egr replaced once. That was last week and I am taking it back tomorrow so they can look at it again. The tech said that all sensor readings come back normal.Does anybody know what could be doing this?I love the truck but wished it ran as good as the work truck as in without problems.
Surging could be caused by a number of things. Does it surge when the diesel tech has it? If not, try to talk them into putting in a black box recorder you can turn on when it starts doing it.
Also check your oil. Is it up over the top of the plastic tip on the dipstick? It should be between the "MIN" and "MAX" in the crosshatched area of the dipstick tip. Drain some out so that it is just above the min and see if the surging disappears.
Thanks for the reply. It does surge with the tech driving it and he has put the box on it.He said the egr voltage was going up and down as it surged. So that is when they replaced the egr.The tech knew about the problems with the 6.0.Every time I said anything from what I found on here he knew about it from other trucks.I checked the oil and it was fine and the only numbers that make any sense on the ecm label something like 160504.I took it back today and the tech was on the phone for hours with ford and came with the turbo being bad.
Mine is doing the same thing. It only does it when it is up to temp, though. It's an '03 with a Feb '03 build date. I have had it flashed (July 04) and put on the 4" exhaust (turbo back) and the Diablo Predator. The truck was doing this before the upgrades. Dealership said it was normal... I have been able to make it quit by shutting the truck off at a light and starting it right back up. The engine noise is noticeably different (not as quiet) and the surge is gone. If you park it for 10 or 15 minutes or more, the surge will be back. I can't see any change in the tach or feel any surge, but I hear it and the boost guage agrees. It fluctuates about 3 pounds.
I hope this helps us all...
