Curious Question
ok, i was just messin around the other day and looking at stuff on two of my trucks and here's what Im curious about. I was reading the door tags. Both are 72' F250's 3/4 ton. One is a camper special and the other isnt. They both have 360 2v and Dana 60 3:73 rears. The only difference really is the C.S. had a 3 speed and the other had a 4 speed. They both were even the same color lol. Now the thing is the C.S. truck had a net hp rating of 170, while the other one is rated at 156. Any reason they rated the same engines differently or is there something done to one of them to make it have less or more hp? Im just wonderin' havent much else to do today.

Where I work we have a few 68-72's around (all are used,one's a TT)2 are C.S. and they both have 390's.My 72' chilton's lists 1968-71 360 at 215 hp,72 at 196.Lists 68-71 390 at 255 and 72' is 201 hp.Here's where it gets weird,one is "4 on the floor" and the other "3 on the tree".

Well I was just talking about when I decoded the door tags. Im sorry I forgot to mention that the CS had a 390, b/c i ended up taking it out awhile back and while it was on the floor i measured the stroke. I just cant figure out why they put "Y" in the vin number for a 360 when it was a 390 lol.

I think I saw somewhere that some of the 390's had the optional 4 bbl that was rated at 275hp? When I changed 2bbl to 4bbl with alum intake, I definitely felt mo' power when my foot was in it.

Maybe someone else put a 390 in it before you became owner. I know you can do some numbers matching and will be able to tell if the engine in there is original or not. I just don't know anything about those numbers.

My dad was an engineer at Chrysler in the 60's. The auto manufacturor's used advertized horse power. Same 318 in 3 different cars would have different HP rating. 4-dr Sedan would be less than a wagon by 10-15hp, 2-dr would be more hp... etc.
