Electrical Harness removal

I am trying to remove the wiring harness from the firewall of my truck and I am not sure how it comes out. Does anyone know?

Are you talking about where it slides through the rubber grommet from inside the cab to under the hood? You're going to have to un-clip everything holding those wires in place under the dash and under the hood, as well as un-plug everything as well. Then work the rubber grommet loose, and pull through the hole, probably one plug at a time. You might find it easier to unplug it under the hood, and pull it back into the cab. A bit of soapy water on the grommet will help it slide out and back in later.

From the inside of the truck, get access to the fuse block under the dash. There are a couple of screws in oposite corners of the fuse block that connect the halves of the block together. Remove the screws and the block should separate. When I painted my firewall, I didn't remove the fuse block, I wrapped the exposed block and wires with aluminum foil to keep the spray off. Easier than taping and quicker too.

Removing it from the firewall is a hell of a lot easier with some of the dash out of the way, that's for sure..............The grommets are easy to figure out, they should only go one way or the other (easily wihtout tearing them up). One easy trick is to unplug as much as you can to separate the main dash harness from the engine side harnesses. You'll have to take your time though, and each time you unplug something, wrao tape around each plug and mark "A" and "A", "B" and "B", etc. If you have some additional time, you can also make notes, such as "A" connects to WS Wiper switch, "B" connects to main radio harness, etc, etc. Assuming this is a winter project, and nothing that has to be completed quickly, this is the route I would suggest and taking some of the dash out would be a great help as well........Good luck, it's easy to put back together if you take it apart the right way.
