Is there anyway to convert the front end to manual hubs like the older front axles? When in 2wd does the front differential turn? My 1998 has the floor mounted selector.
Your truck does not have front hubs. It has CV joints at the wheel. The front axle always turns by the motion of the wheel. Power is engaged at the front diff.
You could spend several thousand dollars if you really want to have the ability to get out and lock 'em in. Fabtech makes a straight axle swap kit. It costs some bucks and uses a dana 44 or 60 monobeam axle. I see a problem with the difference in lug patterns between the two... metric versus SAE. Then you'd have to swap the rear axle too, and then that opens up a whole can of worms by itself.
