Bad Gas
What is bad gas? Are certain brands bad? I thought gas was gas. I filled up with Citgo a few days ago (regular) and started pinging/rattling in my 2001 Ranger SC XLT 3.0. Today filled up with Texaco (regular) and stopped pinging/rattling ( I think).

I used to say "gas is gas" and would argue about it. The spouse claimed her car would not run as good on certain brands. I told her she was nuts. Sometime later I was having some trouble with poor idle and driveability. She told me it was the gas. A shot of Techron fixed it up but it came back. I started avoiding the brand that was most easily available to me on the routes I usually drove and instead used a different major brand (her favorite) only. Problems corrected themselves and have not returned. The problem around here seems to be the amount of detergent used with the reformulated gas. Higher detergent levels above the minimum seem to be needed.
In your case I would say bad gas is what doesn't work for you and good gas is what does work. Trust your observations. Your experience and mine match.
