Question Manual shifter problem

My 88 F-150 4x4 with the 4.9l and 5-speed trans seemed to be getting to the point that first gear was in my lap and overdrive was in the passenger side vent window. Upon investigation I found that the pins that the shifter travel on are worn, before I try to replace the plate on top of the trans. with one from a junk yard is there anyway to replace or repain the pins and tighten the shift pattern back up? I am concerned that the junk yards will not want to part out complete transmissions that are already in good shape.

Could it be that the shift forks are so worn out?? I know i had mine rebuilt this past summer, and a month later it was leakin from the plugs on top. I took it back and they covered it from warrenty but they discovered the new shift forks they put in first looked like they had 50,000 miles on them (they replaced with diff kind). Good luck... i hate my tranny its the only thing i dont like bout my truck.

Try this site http://yp.bellsouth.com/sites/southerngear/ and ask about the pins. I purchased a kit from them a while back that came with the plastic cups, spring washers and shifter pins for my M5OD tranny.

Take care, Ed
