Anyone done headers themselves? I want to do a set, but im a little nervous on trying it myself, but i refuse to pay for it(installation would be more than the headers I want). I assume you just take out the wheel wells and go from there...
Anyone have step by step instructions for me? Anyone that has headers...what kind did you go with?
Yes-thru the wheelwells. I have Gibson ceramic coated headers and Magnaflow cat back. What we did was install headers, ream out the first "pre cats" . By doing this,we avoided in having to construct a pipe that bolts to the header. I also have Magnaflow cats-this is important as the stock ones will defeat any gain in your headers-they suck-anyways I believe the cats cost @$100 apeice. I also believe they were 2.5 inch in and out. I ordered oval and I assume you could get the round ones but they could interfer with driveshaft etc. We cut off the stock cats and welded on the new. By doing that you also keep the factory Y pipe which bolts to the cat back. The pipes coming from the cats are both nice and look mandrel bent so there was no need to change those. I am going to purchase a resonated tail pipe because it's too loud for my wife, and when Magnaflow sells the cat back they don't assume your putting on headers. FWIW-my mechanic did the entire job himself in 6 hours. P:S: Use new Ford header gaskets-high quality but pricey
