Anybody know why you have to have beer put in a bag before you can take it out of the store? I went to a conveniance store yesterday and bought a 6 pack, the clerk told me that he was out of bags and I couldn't take the beer without a bag. Is this a Texas thing or what? You can take a 12 pack without a bag but not a 6 pack or individual beer. I just don't make any sense to me. Anybody got an idea.
i read it somewhere awhile back but i forgot why. They've never given us any problems with anything we've bought. But we usually get it from walmart too.
duh! that's so you can keep it covered up while drinking the beer in your truck.
LOL!!! just kiddng, dont drink and drive.
maybe its so the homeless people who stop in once an hour can drink in the parking lot in peace!
i usually don't get anything less than a two four unless it's summer and i'm hanging out in the park or something and i just want a beer
i think its something about having to package these things cuz they're not supposed to sell you a beer to go and drink on the spot but go home and drink. cuz you drink the beer out of the can it needs to be in a bag. if its in a case then you'd technically have to open the case and take out a beer so you're ok.
i'm not a lawyer but i bought a couple beers at the gas station last week and the girl she put each one in a paper bag. i asked her about it and she said it was a law.
I know you can't drink on the premesis of the store, but the bag thing just doesn't make sense. If anything they shouldn't give you the paper bag when you buy a pint that way you can't hide it as easily.
They do that up here in Iowa, sometimes an option, clerk will ask and I will say yes just cuz it looks cool! Still don't see the point, they want you to cover it up because it's alcohol, well it's not like people aren't going to know what's in the small brown paper bag... not many people walk around with water or pop in a paper bag. ??
I almost think it makes it more noticable, makes you look like a hobo walking around taking swigs out of a paper bag.
They do the same thing here...don't know if it's "policy" or not but I see them doing it regularly. Don't know the reason except maybe to show that you bought rather than stole it!
I used to have the Applicable Legal Code Sections written down somewhere for Okla, misplaced them.
But all alcoholic beverage sales of less than 12 units in Ok must be placed in a opaque sack or container before leaving the store.
Of course Ok was the last state in the Union to legalize liquor by the drink sales too.

Not a clue, but given that we're the buckle of the Bible belt it's not surprising.
All alcohol sales stop at 2AM to 6AM. And we won't go into 3.2 beer vs 6 point. If a company sells 6 point in Ok, they're not allowed to sell 3.2. Have to go to a liquor store for 'strong' beer.
Friend of mine emigrated to Australia after the service, his opinion of American beer is unprintable. His opinion of Okla liquor laws withers foliage and peels paint. And he grew up here.
I have heard a mixture here in NC on that one. I work in a grocery store, and my stepsister works in the same one i did back home. She has been told it is illegal to let them carry out beer outside of a bag(unless it's in a case), yet the store down here in charlotte, when i asked the Customer Service Manager, he said he hadn't heard of anything like that. So I still give them an option until told otherwise.

That's too funny, we have the same nonsense in Kansas. It's impossible to explain all the stupidity to someone not already familiar with it.
In Texas it's 12 noon to midnight that you can sell beer and until 1 am on Saturdays. (Thats from a store, bars are different) And hard liquor sales stop at 9 pm and closed on Sundays. So Okla. maybe more "liberal" than you think. There's a couple of "dry" counties in Texas but I forget where they are.
