Clutch Question

I have an 87 6.9 w/5speed. When I bought it I had to put my foot though the firewall to get it into gear so, I read alot of old posts and talked to a friend who worked at FORD, about this problem. I pulled out the fork and inspected it, it looked fine, no wear. I did not let the plunger on the slave come out but, now I cannot get it into 1st or reverse even after bleeding it. I have to pump it like 10 times for it to barely get into gear. I instpected firewall for cracks and there is none. Looked at the pedal bushings and they look fine too. When I talked to my friend he told me that these things have been a problem bleeding out the air since NEW! That somehow air bubbles get trapped and the fluid just flows right by. Is this true? There has to be a way to fix this... Any help is appreciated!

Ken
