Anyone interested in showing the Sierra Club how you feel should visit Crowley Offroad and look at their bumper stickers and t-shirts...quite interesting!
Yes, it was a rhetorical question on my part. I just had to vent. I'm really getting tired of every left wing cause celeb being treated as if it's real news. Oh well, now that the Excursion is being discontinued, "global warming" will no longer be an issue.
hitecdan---I'll make sure that global warming doesn't go away! I simply don;t own a car that gets good mileage. My daily driver 03 CObra gets 13 around town! I guess tha makes it an ecomony car.

Good, then you can be the Sierra Club's new global warming poster child and they can leave the rest of us alone.
I try to be careful about the environment. I always make sure my old oil and batteries get to a recycling center, I don't litter, etc. But, it seems the Sierra group won;t be happy until the air coming out is cleaner than the air going in!
About mileage. My soon to be former '94 Bronco only gets 10 MPG or so, but I don't hear anyone complaining about that. (I have never checked the MPG of the Viper...too scared to know!) My best fuel ecomony car is a slant six Plymouth I restored that rides in a trailer.
But seriously, Ford cutting the X could be a good thing. It would make an opportunity for some enterprising chap to buy F250 frames from Ford, diesel engines from <someone> and then build a first-class SUV on top.
I believe that would be called the "Studebaker XUV"
1 - a V6 Diesel for F150 and I assume that would translate to the Expy line. Anyone have any ideas what kind of TQ & HP a V6 diesel might generate? Supposedly the Expy can tow 11,000 pounds.
"Ford also is developing a six-cylinder diesel engine for the F-150 for introduction late in this decade."
2 - potential continuance of the X in 2006
"Ford Excursion: Ford will drop the Excursion, although the timing for the end of production keeps changing. The Excursion was scheduled to die after the 2004 model, but Ford said it would keep it going at least through 2005. Now it appears Ford might continue to sell the Excursion through the 2006 model year."
1. Ford is already using that V6 PSD in their LCF trucks. The key to using it in the F150 and Expedition is the availability of low sulphur diesel so that it can meet the emissions requirements for 1/2 ton trucks.
2. I'll believe that Ford is done with the X when I see it. These rumors have been floating around for years, yet somehow it still remains in production.

I have to say that I agree with you on this one. I won't hold my breath either way. I have one right now & I'll drive it 'til it dies or becomes just too much of a pain to fix like my '85 Suburban.

Unfortunantly, the Expy's tow capacity is nowhere near the 11K figure.
The power output of the V6 would kinda depend on its displacement, right? No word on that yet. I would imagine it would be around 300/500 to have any presence in the diesel market.
They'll definantly have to drop to IRS on any stretched Expy. The F-150's rear outboard shocks really work well to control that live axle. I would imagine they would use a similar setup.

...Well then the Sierra Club ought to really like Ford -- After all, several years ago Ford built a number of models that featured a special coating on the radiators that used the free heat already being generated and acted as a catalyst, breaking down air pollution while creating ozone to replace what's being destroyed by exhaust emissions... In other words, the air coming out was better than the air going in, and it didn't cost the vehicle anything in efficiency!
Unfortunately, the added cost per vehicle was too much and Ford cut costs by going back to regular radiators ... really a shame, because they had set a great example for the industry by doing it in the first place...

They didn't dump the technology, though. They gave it to their Volvo guys. That's the radiator you get today in their XC models. Maybe even their other models.
