I have a 302 that is not making power on #s 6+7. The engine is a 1976 and only has 5000 or so miles on a complete rebuild. Everything internal is new and it has a new intake and carb. The only thing I reused is the dist. I put a new cap and rotor, plug wires, coil and plugs in it. But it still misses. I am going to get a used dist body tomorrow at the junkyard. I can't afford a new dist this close to Christmas.
The problem didn't start until I put the new Intake, Carb and headers on. That is how I know what cylinders are not doing anything the paint is still on the headers where the cyl are dead. All the plugs are firing but the fire looks weak and it is red instead of blue. I hope you all can help, I am at the end of my rope on this one.
I have checked the wires and done a compression check. The cylinder pressure is 95% of each other(125lbs). Would the coil still work but just be weak? If so I will get another coil before I get the dist. The coil is less than a year old, but I don't have the recipt. Thank you for the quick reply.
125psi low!!!???? My 351 had 105 to 110, and it ran great, well untill a piston ring cracked, and still than had some serious bag. it sounds more like your firing order is bad or something, if you had a bad head gasket you wouldent have good compression at all. maby a set of wires, cut and grounding somewhere? try running it at night, with the hood open with no lights around anywhere, and look for some sparks jumping,
I have a '71 302 and was going crazy trying to get it run right.I went through EVERYTHING and it turned out to be loose intake manifold bolts. This made it miss and idle bad.Seems like a good place to start since it was where I ended up.I woulda never figured it out if it wasn't for you'll here in the forums who kept saying vacuum...vacuum...vacuum.
Ready for the maiden voyage in the V8 Ranger
