Has anyone heard of the HOT FOOT UPGRADE for the powerstrokes? I have read about it somewhere, you change out your pedal assembly. The upgraded one suppose to be re-cal'd for better performance?
Any one know of this upgrade, where to buy etc??
My take of it is if you look at your go pedal you will notice that these trucks are "fly by wire" they use a little reostat to tell the computer how far you are into the pedal, they also use a thing called a Idle Verification Circuit.
If you notice on the front of your gas pedal, towards the top the will be a little tab off to one side, I think it is the left side, and a micro switch behind it on the firewall that, when you push on the go pedal you will hear the switch click, and usually the engine will jump up a few hunderd R's when you push the pedal, the mod requires you to bend the tab AWAY from the micro switch so that you barely have to push on the pedal before the switch click's, telling the computer to rev the motor. the important part is to make sure that the micro switch still clicks, when you push the pedal, mine is set up so that if I just touch the pedal the switch will click and the motor will rev.
I can hold it right at 600 rpm's idle is about 500, when I first got the truck if you touched the gass it would jump to a 1000 rpm.
the result is a much better throttle feel, more responsive, and not as jumpy of a motor.
Dunno if you guys have run across it yet in your searches, but there is more to the power pedal, hot foot, whatever you want to call it.
When you "bend the tab" you are getting off the IVS (idle validation switch) earlier so that you can get into the throttle without the dead pedal lag.
The second part of the mod involves removing the TPS (throttle position switch), which is the rheostat part of the system, and elongating the mounting holes so that the switch can be "clocked" differently, allowing you to send a higher voltage signal to the PCM.
Cookie, please tell me more about this indexing of the rheostat.
I know how rheostats work and how the voltage drop across them is and what not but, my question is what does the computer do if it "see's" more voltage. I can assume that it would just inject more fuel, as it does through the entire pedal travel, what can we expect to get from this, have you done it, and if so how do you like it. I bent that tab like 2 days after I got the truck, before I even found this site, but I never realy thought to index the rheostat.

The PCM will supply max fuel at a ~5v. input from the TPS, the problem is that most of our TPS's are positioned so that they will only allow 3.8-4.2v. Just giving it little "twist" will put it in a position so that it can use the full travel of the pot.
Ever notice that when you have the cruise control set and loose some speed on a hill the cruise will just slam the fuel to it to regain speed, in a way that you can't quite match with the throttle pedal....that's what the full 5v. feels like.

If I'm understanding this correctly, you slot out the holes of the TPS, which allows it to move(?) giving a higher v(volts?) resulting in more fuel supplied to the engine. Or do you slot the holes to readjust it, and if so, how do you re-position it? I understand the bending of the tab, that's simple enough, but I'm still not clear on the TPS modification, and haven't been able to find anything from a search.

I just found a thing at Power%20Pedal%20Mod (you will have to copy and paste into adress bar) gives a big thing on it.... i was wondering if this also worked on a 97 Old bodystyle truck as well.... rather not drill any holes till i know myself... thanks in advance!
hey cookie... can i do this on my 97? (old body) style truck? gotta love the thought of some extra kick for free!!

almost every mod on this forum will work on your truck, the motors are the same on the new one's as yours and mine. there are a few small diferences like fuel supply, injectors, and the new ones are intercooled, but the basics like intake exhaust, various electronic stuff will interchange. Look at my sig you will see I have the same truck as you. alot of guys on here have the older trucks. My fav is Quadzilla's and I am really surprised he hasn't said anything yet.
