Sounds like a stupid question coming around and I hope a simple solution,
when I stop at a light and idle for more than a few minutes the voltage idiot gauge drops. I have just changed the battery and have drove my truck to and from town, always have a good charge to start on cold cold mornings and during the day sitting in the freezing temps. any replys?
Test at the battery, check to make sure you are getting the correct voltage. If it starts fine in the cold, then I would be willing to bet that it is just the idiot guage that is just that, tells the idiots when the voltage is so far out of whack that the truck won't run much longer.
Voltage dropping some at idle is normal, especially if the lights, heater, wipers, etc. are on. If you think it is too much, check your drive belt for wear, and check to see if the idle speed is too low. What year is this truck? Is it fuel injected?
Try setting the parking brake instead of the regular brake and see what happens. Just a thought.
