Would these headers work...

(previosly posted on the Explorer/Mountie section, but no response...)

...on a 2001 5.0 Merc Mountaineer AWD? Ford Racing says they fit GT-40P heads, but I can't tell if other things in the engine bay will cause an issue? First glance says the steering shaft might be touchy, but there's no telling without trying.

I just can't see paying $$$ for those Torque Monster Headers. Who has thoughts?

Is this an Ebay item? If not and you know who makes them try to contact the maker they should be able to tell you.

Just my two cents!

Sorry... my fault...forgot the product ID. These are Ford Racing headers designed for GT40P heads. GT-40 "P" HEADERS part #M-9430-P50*

http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...tKeyField=3616

It has the foot note "Finally a header that fits the new angled spark plug 5.0L GT-40 “P” cylinder head. Fits 1986-93 Mustangs with stock or aftermarket H-pipe. Also fits 1979-85 Mustangs and other Fox chassis with minor modification"

The bigger question is not whether or not they will fit the heads (they should), but has anyone been successful in squeezing them into the already tight 5.0L Explorer/Mountie engine bay?

Why not use these: http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...tKeyField=2837 They are for a Explorer And do the same thing as the others. They are a little more money but at least they are for what you want. You can also contact Ford Racing i'm sure they have tech support available.

Forget those toads, note how none are "street legal"?

Check out:

http://www.jbaheaders.com/cat4ward.asp

They claim 50 state smog legal.

As for the original question, I wouldn't bet my money on them fitting.

Wiz-

I saw those too, but I don't know if the 96-98 Xs had GT40P heads. I believe that there was a slight motor change for the 99+ model year (99-01 have GT40 intake/heads, similar to the short lived 5.0 Cobra motor, sans the good cam, but the heads are the "P" variety where the spark plugs come out of the head on a sideways angle).

Big question is mostly around fitment. Tried Ford tech support, but I can only "hold" for so long...I'll need to try again soon.

85e150...I agree that it is not teh best choice, but it is a unique head setup that not too many people will tool for.
