Ed, I am currently at the bare frame stage so can't help with any measurements from the fenders. I'm somewhat puzzled by measuring from the disc unless all rotors are the same distance from the base of the studs (what I called the hub face) and the rotor surface. How is wheel offset related to the rotor surface?? Isn't offset the distance from where the rim mates to the hub/rotor to the edge of the rim?

The disc swap is very nice. I had a friend install the adapters that go on the spindles. They are heated up and pressed on. Also had to sand down that adapter surface to have proper clearance for the inner bearings. It is machined to a tight fit and I think it expands somewhat when pressed on. If you don't sand it down some you will probably wreck the bearings trying to get them off. The total width definitely looks wider than stock. Not sure if it is because of the large rotors on my bare axle etc. May just be visually deceiving.

I can take some photos if you want. With the frame bare it is easy to get some good shots and measurements.

Kevin

Maybe I will measure from the end of the spindle to the hub face. You can then compare this to your stock distance and get an idea how different it will be??

Thanks Kevin. I would like to see the conversion in pics. Sounds like you have your work cut out for you with the bare frame. As for the measurements, I got the information from star wheels. They carry several types of wheels. If you go to their website, they have a diagram on how to measure for offset. The drawing is not the best but you can get the idea. My explanation may be wrong. I figured I'll take it in to the wheel place and let them do it. I may do the disc conversion first.

Wheel Offset

Ed
Im not sure if this will help but I just went thru the same thing in ordering my wheels. I just ordered 17x7 fronts with 4.75" backspace and 18x10 with 4.75" backspace rears. I took a piece of 1/2" plywood and cut a disc the the same diameter as the overall tire diameter. Then took plywood and made templates of different backspaces for my rim widths and screwed them to the wood. This allows you to mount the plywood disc and see where any interferance will be. If you want pictures of how to do it let me know.

Also remember that on a 17 x 9.5 the 9.5 inch dimension is the bead seat and the overall width is closer to 10.5".

www.billetspecialties.com has a good free reference page for measuring wheel backspace.

Ed, I posted some pictures in my gallery of the right side rotor/bracket etc. Hope this gives you an idea of what the swap looks like. I can take a picture of the adapter bushing on the spindle if you want?? Just have to remove the rotor and clean off the grease.

Kevin, thanks for the great photos. The install is clean and looks pretty easy to do. I'm definitely going to do the conversion.
