My truck has an NP208 and it works but it its shift pattern is seat-2hi-4hi-N-dash. It has been that way since i bought it N is very hard to get into i have to puch it all the way to the floor. Is it cheaper to take it apart and fix it or should i just find another one and put it in there?
What would cause it to have the reversed back a!! shift pattern?
I am leaning towards the shift forks but i'm not sure.
If i put another one in it would a BW1356 or a NP205 bolt in?
Could i Run twin sticks on any of these cases?
If it were me i would swap a 205 in as its fairly easy to do, but really the only way to tell for sure is to pull the case and see what's the matter in there, but if you are to replace it i would swap a 205 in there. (i have a pic i can post that shows the 2 things i had to do)
DT...your shift sequence on your transfer case seems odd to me...i also have an NP208, but the sequence is as follows (dash to seat): 2hi-4hi-N-4lo where's your four low??? curious...
I agree with MontanaFord. Where is your 4LO.
4LO can be a bit difficult to get in and out of. You have to be sitting perfectly still with the clutch engaged. Also easier if the truck is setting on level ground to keep the tension off of the driveshaft.
You cannot shift into or out of 4LO on any manual transfer case that I know of.
The transmission forum has a tech article on twin sticks, it is written by Ivan Ribic and is very good. I believe he used a NP205 and a NP208 if I am not mistaken.
yup 2 hi is at the seat
when you shift into 4 lo do you have to move the shifter left or right? Or just up and down?

sounds like the linkage was put on backwards. 2hi should be on the floor, and 4LO at the seat.
well i looked under there today and it is just a rod thathas a pivot point and then an arm that connects the bottom of the shifter to the reansfer case
there is no pivot or any thing it looks like a teeter totter where the one end is in the cab and the other end is hooked up to a rob that goes to the transfer case.
Is it supposed to move left or right or up and down?
And if it matters the lever on the transfer case points down
The rod should move towards the front of the truck and towards the back of the truck. You should get someone to shift the t-case through all the gears while you watch to see what is going with the linkage, this should then give you an idea of whats going on.

I think that is the problem.. the lever should point up when in 2HI and towards the seat when you're in 4LO. Someone put the lever on backwards.
so the lever on the transfer case that has the rod connected to it shoud point up?
So some one fliped it 180 to where it points down right
thats just a bolt and a cotter pin right?
