I have a 2001 XLT with a 5.4L 60,000 miles and I am thinking of changing the rotors on her, but am unsure of the cost and what parts I need. So do the rotors simply fit over the studs or are there bearings that need to be pressed into place?
What would recomend chinging them with and how much should they cost? How long should it take? (I used to repair boats and PTO's on rock crushers, so I know how to turn a wrench.)
Thanks Guys

depending on what quality you want, you can spend anywhere from $140 to $350 on a set of rotors and pads. All you need is the rotors and a set of pads, nothing else need to be replaced at 60k miles. Good luck getting those rotors off, I'd search the forum for tips, it can be a real pain. I just sprayed them down real good with penetrating spray, waited an hour, then whacked them off with a sledge.
After nearly heating and nearly 2 hours beating on my front rotors with a 5 lb sledge I resorted to cutting them of with a Sawzall. More recently I just blasted with a torch for a bit, just out side the studs along the edge, they were then easily removed with a few light taps.
I can only guess that maybe the second time around I was more patient and methodical with the heating or the third party rotors had more relief on the inside recess of the rotor where a circle of rust forms to lock the rotore to the hub.
My Ford dealer actually tired to tell me that the rotors needed to be machined on the Truck at a substaintially higher cost.
and oh...to avoid what you are reading about stuck on rotors...apply anti-seize to the inside of your new rotors where the rotor and hub meet up. I did this when i first changed my pads/rotors at 40k miles. When i did pads my 2nd time, the rotors slid right off like butter and all the anti-seize was still there. good luck.
I recently put Power Slot rotors on my 03 & they are great. Besides the stopping, they have coating to prevent rusting. The were less than the dealer wanted for new ones from Ford .
Az - I paid $332 for Porwe Slots for the front, & both front & rear pads. Here is the link. http://www.buybrakes.com/
Very knowledgable & I think they offered free shipping.
