Some posts mention Ford reps sending in the computer to see if a truck was tunered before a major claim like a trans or engine. Which computer is it ? Ecm,Pcm ? Does anybody know? If I get a used or new one what does the accumulated mileage on the vehicle show? I already loaded a predator in my 2005 and besides eraseing codes and restoring tunes what else can be done so as not to needlessly upset my dealership service dept?
There has been a lot of discussion on this issue. Based on reports from people who should be in the know, once you return the PCM to the factory tune or original as Diablo calls it, there is no "footprint". Possible the same as you would get if you disconnected the batteries for a while. That being said, there are other indications on an engine that has been tuned and abused that will give Ford cause not to honor a claim on warranty.
I,ve read long threads on the subject both here and at dieselstop. I know there may be physical clues, traces such as a flower burn pattern on piston crowns ( Ive seen on 7.3s which were not tuned also )If I don,t run the poodle fur out of it I don,t anticipate a problem. I,m not exceeding the original speed limiter or top speed. If I do blow a trans or burn a turbo I want to know which computer Ford might examine to try and determine if the engine was tuned .I,m sure it,s been mentioned that FMC may require a dealer to send in a computer for examination. Which one? The ecm, seems obvious but maybe the trans controls are elsewhere and able to measure torque input. Also I asked if anyone knows where the odometer data is stored ?

The PCM actually houses the TCM as well. The On Board diagnostic computer program in the electronic Powertrain Control Module (PCM) coordinates the OBD self-monitoring system. This program controls all the monitors and interactions, DTC and MIL operation, Freeze Frame data and scan tool interface.
Freeze Frame data describes stored engine conditions such as state of the engine rpm and load at the point the first fault is detected. This data is accessible with the scan tool to assist in repairing the vehicle
OBD Inspection Maintenance (IM) Readiness DTC P1000 indicates that not all of the OBD monitors have been completed since the PCMs keep alive random access memory was last cleared.
This means that if the KAM is cleared, which happens when you disconnect the batteries for a length of time. It needs to be driven to clear the P1000.
From my understanding, the restoring of original programming with the Predator may leave an indication that a P1000 event may have occured.
how hard would it be to get a Ford computer so we could check everything ourselves?..that way we could cover up this so called footprint and then take it to for to get a new eng, tran, or turbo?..any thoughts
