i just got a 99 explorer sport 4x4 over the summer and have been lookin around at the possible performance upgrades. i am on a limited budget(student) and woudl like to improve my trucks mpg ang power. so my question for yall is what is the best upgrade for the dollar?
I would have to say exhaust upgrades, and upgrades to the air intake system (filter, box, etc) would be the basis of any changes made towards more power and mpg.
i know k&n makes a intake kit for my truck but that cost over $200 is there a company thats makes a cheaper on or is ther a way to make something myself that will do the same as buying something new?
Something you can increase fuel/timing for performance then set back to stock for towing or economy.
I think Diablo Sport has something http://diablosport.com/main.php
the best basic bolt on, horse power per dollar mod would have to be headers and true duals with a cross over pipe, if you have emmisions in your area you will still have to use cats, but it will still make a huge differerence. start with bolting on headers (save some cash by doing it yourself) then go to a local hot rod exhaust shop and get them to bend you some duals, make shure to ask for a cross over pipe as it realy helps
