I use mine all the time, if I am gunna be on the brakes alot, but never really stop its nice so the truck doesnt jerk as much when you get back in the throttle.
I use it for stopping, I like the feel of the engine brakeing effect until I am down to 30 mph, towing at slow speeds around 20-40 where the PCM won't lock it, also works great for a crawl feature, low range, tranny in second gear lock it and just crawl along.
Do you notice a big decrease in tranny temp when locking the TC? My tranny heats up to 225 when I am at a long, slow tow uphill. Will locking the TC help lower tranny temps?
Yes, it definelty will. I use it for towing hay racks, you can only go 20-30 and the T/C wont lock up at those slow of speeds, it imediatly drops the temps, but lugs the motor a lil more so the EGT's went up a lil, but nothing realy bad.
Hey guys, ijust put my TC lock/ Brake in today. I did it realy simply, All i did was tap the purple/ yellow wire coming to the trany, and ran it to a ground on a toggle switch,
and ran a hot wire to the EBPV grey pink wire on an other toggle switch. seems to work great. But I was just wondering if i did it right. Ive seen some with diodes. ?/
Will I hurt any ting with this set up??
thanks J
The last I remember was the the EBPV was somewhere around a 6Volt coil and that whoever built the brake mod used some resisters to drop the voltage down to 6 Volts so not to burn up the coil so fast. I don't remember where i read it, do a search.
If the O.D. light is flashing you may have a problem. Its flashing I believe is a code. When my tranny went out it was flashing and the code was torque converter slipping if I remember correctly. I also have done this mod and my light does not flash.
Are you sure it is locking??? if you do it wrong and the T/C doesnt lock, the light will start to flash.
on the new SD it seems that the light will flash too, with no ill effects, some have had a hard shift, others nothing, works normal. run it for a lil bit longer and see if it quits flashing, it could also be a speed sensor goin out.
On my '99 it will most always flash whenever I have the TC locked up manually. I figure the PCM is something something happening that it didn't tell it what to do, so it thinks somethings wrong.
You can use the TC lock at speeds above 40 mph. remember my situation. Im on the freeway, doing 60mph downhill in a mnt pass. As soon as I tap my brakes, I lose engine braking and need to use my brakes even MORE to maintain speed. With the TC locked, even at freeway speeds, I can use my brakes, and still keep engine braking.
As for the flashing OD light, some trucks just dont like the TC lock mod. Not much you can do about that. Other trucks dont care. Its kinda like the 10k mod. Some set the SES light, and some dont.
