Drive a '93 for a work truck,4cylinder 5spd.Has 111,000 miles. Just got it back from the shop, trans used to rattle like marbles in the case when idling, cleared up w/a few rpm's. Also whined pretty loudly in 1,2,3rd and 5th gears. Completely quiet in 4th, little whine in 5th. Shop said they replaced bearings and seals.
Got it back, clatter is gone, but whines persist. Shop says nothing visible wrong w/gears. I know most all trannys talk a little in low, but this baby howls. Don't think it's the rear because as you select the next gear noise kind of starts over again, from low to high pitch. Loud enough you can here me coming. What do you think?? Drives perfect otherwise. Impressive, tight little truck, especially considering mileage. Thanks in advance!
Jimmy
Some tranny's use Automatic Transmission Fluid, and some use gear oil, ask the shop what they used. possibly carrier bearing??? Make sure they used the correct fluid.
