On my D44 Front end, the ball joint type things on my drag link are spent, I was wondering....can you justpop those out, and put bew ones in, like a ball joint, or am I gonna have to get a whole new drag link?
Your going to have to replace the whole drag link. Well I did anyways last year when I replaced my drag, and tie rod. Wasnt cheap either, over 500 cdn.
Good Luck
i just bought the draglink, centerlink, inner tierod, adjuster clamp, and a ragjoint for under $150 brand new at autozone here in town.....if your only replacing one, you will probably get it for under $50........
Hye guys, I have a 68 f100 2 WD. THe drag link, tie rod ends, and center link are shot on mine and I am looking to replace it all. One question though. When you guys were replacing yours did you notice how the drag and center link go between the opening in the radious arms? My R/S is hanging down on the bottom of that opening and rubbing into it, it doesn't help any that this side is the sloppy side, but the drag link looks like it might be bent a little. I found all this checking my toe in and out. It is toed in about 1 1/8 IN chewing the tread right off the tires going down the road. Any how, it is not very often i check back in here so if you might shoot me an email at stevep@beelman.com I would apprieciate it alot. Thanks this site rocks for truck info. Keep the fords alive and rolling. Keep dodging the Dodges.
mine are pretty much centered in the holes on my 76 F-150, i fought it trying to take out the old setup one side at a time, when installing the new one i figured out that if you fold the setup in the middle it slides right in, i felt kinda foolish considering how much i fought it during the removal..........my truck steers great now, but it pulls slightly right, i wonder if that is something i can fix in my driveway or will an alignment shop be my only choice.......
In replacing the center link, drag link, etc. do you have to put the truck up on stands or can you do it just parked there? Anything gonna pop or give me a hard time installing?
you do know this is from 2005, not that it really matters, but its been dead for along time,
also welcome to FTE.com! i am sure someone will come along with a answer, i would guess it would be fine to do it parked in your lane way or garage on stands, a hoist would make it easier for obvious reasons, you shouldn't run into any problems, but let someone else with more experience come along, haven't even really got to this area on my trucks resto, so far every thing seems fine on mine, but i may need the same info for future reference, also replacing the whole drag link sounds pricey, mine looks fine, for now, hope its not a over 100 dollar part, the ball joint ends should be replaceable if the drag link is fine, just another reason for them to charge you more, also good luck with your truck The79Beast

I was just going to get a front differential gasket when I had to look at everything else while under the truck. I'm in the process of fixing/updating/upgrading wiring problems, but having fun. I pressure tested my 4 row radiator and it's leaking--been rebuilt already. So I got another 4 row radiator. In this process, I see my front diff seal leaking bad so I started checking out the steering componets and noticed how loose things were getting and ......well maintaing an old truck can costs a few dollars it is also my therapy. This truck is not a daily driver, but 1979 has special meaning to me.
you guys might consider upgrading the steering you can get nice crossover steering setups for the trucks, cost a little more but dont wear or bend like stock ones.. partsmike.com
