Transmition whoes

I've had a short in steering colum. Now my transmition is acting weird. It shifts into drive and reverse fine. but when accelerating from 1st too second, i need to get off the gas for rpms to come for shift too second. And in 2nd and 3rd if i gun the gas, it goes into nuetural. until rpms come down. As long i take it easy, it'll run. "Love fords"

Anyone have any suggestions with whats wrong?

Thank you all again for all your help

If it hasn't been done in a while, you might try a fluid and filter change.

Make sure the MLPS is still set right. Considering that you had to deal with steering column problems you may have something not quite lined up in the linkage that may be causing at least some of your problems. The Haynes Manual shows the procedure. Its a starting point at any rate. Everything else in the E4OD auto takes its cue from the PCM which derives shift functions based on engine perfomance and the sensors that feed it that information.
