I have a 2002 F350 7.3L diesel 65,000 miles. (bought it used ) It is missing badly . the check engin light stays on. I have a OBD II code reader and no code returned. In the montor side of the reader it states miss fire with no other hints. I kind of knew it was missing. I check the Fuel side. Preasure looks good. The Filter was changed 1,000 miles ago. Check for water and did not have any. small amount of trash in the caught fuel. ANy ideas?
I'm not sure if this is your problem and maybe you have already covered this, but I just got my 2002 back from warranty service under the 3/36 with 34,000 miles on my truck. My Cam Position Sensor was bad. You will find allot of posts here on this sensor going bad using the search feature on this site. From the posts that I have read here, sometimes the engine will cut out then come right back in again as my truck was doing and then sometimes it has left people sitting along the road when the sensor goes bad. The C.P.S. going bad seems to be a common problem with the 7.3L and allot of people are carrying spares like I plan on doing in their glovebox. I dont like the idea of having to do this, but I dislike the idea of sitting along the road even worse. Good Luck...
I'll check this today. I did order a Cam shaft sensor . I'll have it today so when I change it out I'll check the wiring if it does not work.
thank you.
As a point of interest I unhooked the bateries last night so I could check them this morning. They (the bateries are fine) when I cranked the Truck up it ran perfectly at idle just as soon as I gave it a little fuel the missing and check engine light came back. I'l post todays results
I had a similar problem with my 95 psd, it turned out to be a bad injector.Itwas to my local dealer, and they couldn't get a code either. The injector just quit when they were backing the truck out of the shop. That was the only way they found out what it was. They replaced the injector and everything was fine.
The fact that your check engine light is coming on and it's not setting a code sounds to me like PCM problems. You said it ran fine until you hit the pedal. Sounds like truck runs great in open loop. Is your dome light working? Cig lighter? Those two share a fuse with the PCM.
Well the guidance you guys gave was in the right direction. The dealer replaced the wiring harnesses on the fuel injectors. There were shorts but no faults that is the reason it did not give a code. Now that they are change it runs great. Thank you for all the help.
