In past years ........ yea way back. 80w90 in the manual trans and 10w30-40or 20w 50 or whatever in the engine. Obviously I havent owned anything very new until now. My 00 F-250 5.4L specs say synthetic mercon in the manual trans and 5w20 in the engine. MAN! Both of those seem awfully light for use in something called Super Duty. That's whats spec'd, that's what's in it, and that's what I'll use ......... unless some of you experienced Super Duty owners can give me different advise.

Any thoughts?

Use what is recommended. Today's oils & fluids have progressed to levels that were only imagined when 80w90 was popular.

Motorcraft 5w-20 is one of the best oils out there according to many UOAs I've seen.
