Trac-Lock check
Thanks to this forum, I found out I can use my old trac-lock carrier on my F-350 with the Ford 10.5". This carrier has over 250,000 miles, and once, sitting in my garage, got wet (I didn't realize there was a leak 'till a few months later).
What kind of maintenance and checks should I do to make sure it is ready to go into my axle? Any suggestions, tips & comments would be appreciated.
After reading comments from people here and in other forums, I've decided to go with Kelly Safari AWR in 255/85R16, they will give me better mileage, and less wear on the engine (engine wear increases with the square of the increase in rpm's). For reference, it will be $520 mounted, balanced, etc. No road hazzard warranty. I know there are people that get better deals, but I called and searched around quite a bit, that is the best I found. Many tire stores told me that size didn't exist, even though the tire maker website said they did, interesting. I think they just wanted to sell what they had in stock.
I am going to put a Richmond Gear Lock-Right locker on the front Dana 50, hopefully having lockers on front and rear will make up for narrow tires if I ever get in muddy or sandy roads.
Some interesting facts: bolts that hold the bed to the frame, in Varsity Ford were $77, in Appel Ford were $5.75 one and $7.66 the other (they said it took a different size bolt on each side, I was missing the last two, against the tailgate). $0.80 at the local bolt store.
Y'all have a great weekend!!!
