1988 ranger auto overdrive problems
I have an 88 ranger that the convertor and the overdrive only work sometimes.It has a 2.9 and a4ld auto.It had a bad rearend and i changed ratios from 410 to 345 . I changed speedo gear to compensate.can anyone help ? it has to be one thing common to both when they work both do..frustrating problem

wm, there are two electrical solenoids that control shifting in the A4LD. One of these could be causing problem. They are accessable after you pull the pan. I have heard that a bad TPS will also cause shifting problems. Sorry I don't know more details. Don

I suggest you have the trans inspected soon. I had the same problem on my Ranger, and I left it for a few months. It ended up costing me $2146.40 to rebuild. Especialy if it hard shifts from "park" to "OD", or hesitates into 4th.

i am kind of having the same problem but my 88 ranger 2.9 auto o/d just revs up and barely pulls when you put it in o/d but it works pretty good in all others and shifts out o.k. its got me stumped since i dont know alot about the trans. in it any ideas would be appreciated.
