Hello again, everyone. I have a 2000 Ranger XLT Supercab 4X4 with a 4.0L 6 and Automatic Transmission. I still have the misfire in Cylinder 6 after running fuel system cleaner through it, Changing Spark Plug Wires, and Spark Plugs, Fuel Filter was changed also. I am now looking at going into the fuel injector. First, which cylinder is the number six. I thought that as you look at the engine from the front of the pickup, that the cylinders are 1-3-5 on the right and 2-4-6 on the left. Is this correct? And finally, I have never worked with fuel injection before, how would I remove the injector, and what kind of cleaning, rebuilding, or repair work can I do with the injector? If you're suspecting it's an injector problem and not an intake leak, you can swap the injector with another one and see if the problem follows the injector. IMO, replacement injectors are not too expensive so I'd look into that before messing around with one.
To remove the injector, you have to remove the upper intake manifold and gain acess to the fuel supply manifold. The fuel supply manifold not only distributes fuel to the injectors, but it also secures them in place when it is torqued down. The fuel supply manifold is bolted down with the same studs that hold the nuts for the upper intake (I needed a female torx socket to fit the top of the studs). You will also need to unhook the fuel supply line to remove it (don't forget to relieve the fuel pressure first). The injector(s) are then removed using a twisting and pulling motion.
