engine whine at idle

engine whine at idle
why does my eng whine at idle?? idleing then .whrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and only way to get rid of it is slap the gas pedal.. 97 ranger
also idles high/low as well. i replaced o2 sensor but didnt fix..
what to dooooooooooo?

I "kind of" had the same whine. I drained and refilled my power steering pump with new power steering fluid and the noise went away. If you try this, just get one of those big syringe-looking things at PEP Boys and suck all of the old fluid out. I think it was called a gas/oil mixer commonly used for boat motors and such.
