Expedition Trouble Code

Hello,
I have a 99 EB Expedition 111,000 miles. It runs fine, but I’m getting the following error codes:

<TABLE class=MsoTableGrid style="BORDER-RIGHT: medium none; BORDER-TOP: medium none; BORDER-LEFT: medium none; BORDER-BOTTOM: medium none; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse; mso-border-alt: solid windowtext .5pt; mso-yfti-tbllook: 480; mso-padding-alt: 0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-border-insideh: .5pt solid windowtext; mso-border-insidev: .5pt solid windowtext" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 border=1><TBODY><TR style="mso-yfti-irow: 0"><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 1pt solid; PADDING-RIGHT: 5.4pt; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 1pt solid; PADDING-LEFT: 5.4pt; BACKGROUND: black; PADDING-BOTTOM: 0in; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 1pt solid; WIDTH: 36.6pt; PADDING-TOP: 0in; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 1pt solid; mso-border-alt: solid windowtext .5pt" vAlign=top width=49>Code

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

So I thought I was smart and I spent $77 at Autozone on a new EGR valve. Replaced it and I’m still getting the error code. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Brian

Hi Brian and welcome to FTE

To cure your P0402 you most likely need a new DPFE sensor. It's a small sensor that tells the PCM how much EGR is flowing. If you follow the EGR tube from the exhaust manifold up to the EGR valve you'll see 2 small tubes running off it. At the top of those tubes is the DPFE.
I would buy a genuine Ford one as it is "new and improved".

I've never seen a P0181. I would clear the code by removing a battery terminal for 10 minutes and then see if it comes back. If not then don't worry about it.

The other 2 codes you mentioned aren't normal codes. I have no idea what those are.

Thanks Dave!

I'll pickup a new DPFE sensor today.

it's definitely the DPFE sensor. It fixed the same code for me. I bought mine at autozone, but it's not called a dpfe sensor in their system. I think it was called egr valve flow sensor or something to that effect.
