Hi, I own a 2000 Ranger XLT 3.0L , I also have the fabtech 5.5" spindle lift with 33x12.5x15R BFG AT/KO's. The truck originally came with 3.73's but after the lift I needed to install 4.10 and a Limited Slip Differential. I have broken this weak 7.5 rear end twice and all the while never abusing my truck. The dealership wants to charge me $2150.00+ to put another poorly designed spindle case in my truck. I need assistance in finding a Ford 9" rear and what all is involved to install it, my biggest concern is the yolk. I'd like to stay away from having a drive shaft made. The truck comes with the aluminum drive shaft to give you some more info. I am a welder by trade so the ability to customize is there. Please give me some advice on the diferent ways I can go about getting a stronger rear end. I am hearing from friends the Versai will work but my concern is the disc brake's and the yolk to driveshaft dimension issue. Thanks to all who reply and read my post!
I think a 8.8 would be a very easy swap since it's std on some Rangers, grab one from a junkyard with 4.10 locker and bolt it in. Sorry can't help with a 9" swap.
Put in an 8.8. Or a 31 spline 8.8 from an Explorer, which is even stronger, and has disk brakes. A 9" will not have the VSS and stuff for the ABS or Speedometer, and it will be a big mess trying to make it all work. The 8.8" will hold up just fine, and there are plenty around. Start looking for one in the junkyards, would talk much time or work to put one under your truck.
