I fueled up yesterday at the T/A Truckstop in Kingman, AZ. I noticed (for the first time) that the diesel was a noticable green color, kind of like the old 100-110 octane Avgas I used to use years ago in my gasser. Do they dye the fuel green to designate that it is a winter blend? This is my first Winter with a PSD, so I'm not sure if this is normal or not. Maybe it's always green and I just didn't notice? This was marked Diesel #2.
Big Red,
Diesel is dyed green to designate it as "on-road" diesel. Off-road diesel is dyed red. They dye them different colors because on-road diesel is taxable and off-road is not. If somebody is "cheating" by running off-road diesel in their street truck, the law enforcement will know by dipping the drivers tank. There's an enormous fine for running off-road diesel in on-road vehicles.

Thanks LuLu! I just never noticed this before. In fact, it always seemed to have a little blue tint if anything. Maybe whoever dyed this batch was a little heavy handed with the dye!
the fella pouring the dye into the tank must have sneezed and dropped the jug. at least he didn't trip and pour it into the tank of off-road diesel...can't have what, purple diesel can we?

Actually, a couple of times I've bought it during the Summer, it did seem to have a blueish or purpleish tint to it. Other times it was very clear looking. Who knows????
