Hi guys I have a problem. When I hit some bumps the steering wheel and truck frontend shake like h*** till I hit the brakes and come to a stop. The truck is a 94 F 450 and it does this at any speed. Could this be just the shock on the steering linkage or is this something else? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance
Same problem with my 90 ford. I changed rotors and bearings and eliminated most of the problems but not all of the d**** shaking. As soon as I figure it out I will post again
Check the bushings on the end of the radius arms. When these puppies get old, they allow the arm, to move back and forth. This arm keeps the I-beam axles straight, so any back and forth movement can _reeelly_ be felt! The bushings are pretty cheap and not that hard to replace. New ones definitely make a difference.
To check the bushings, park the truck and put the parking brake on. This'll keep it from moving. Look under the cab for the mounting bracket for the arm. You should see the arm going thru the bracket with a black rubber-like bushing on each side of the bracket, held in place by a big bolt on the end of the arm. OK. Now, get a friend to grab the top of the front tire and try to roll the tire back and forth while you watch the end of the radius arm. If you can see any movement of the bolt/radius arm end, it's time for new bushings. HTH!
