I have a 67 F100 with a 240ci 6cyl engine, 3 speed on the column.
Engine & tranny amounting question:
My question is what hardware do I need to install a 302V8 & Automatic.
I have heard that all I would need to do would be to move the motor mount brackets back one hole towards the firewall and use motormounts from a 69 F100. This sounds to easy. Is this correct? What about the support for the auto transmission? Can I just move the stock bracket (manual one) and get a new tranny mount?
One other question, does anyone know where I can get a new engine harness that has HEI & one wire alternator already wired in?
Never dealt with I6 to V8 conversion, but I would bet that would work.
I think the tranny mount should fit the automatic tranny. You may have to move the crossmember and re-drill the frame. That's easy, been there. The actual rubber motor mounts would be regular small block for these trucks. I think think the only issue is moving the brackets on frame(if that is correct information).
As for wiring. There is only like 4 wires on motor harness. Should not be hard to convert. The alternator wiring comes from front passenger side. The only issue there is making the gage/idiot light work correctly.
to swap to a v8 you will have to have engine towers for a 302/400. engine mounts are the same from 65 thru the late 90s. you will need steering column, radiator, and exhaust. you will also need a drive shaft from an automatic truk, if you are using a truck tranny.
there are lots of little things you will need too, brackets, throttle linkage and stuff like that.
it is not a hard swap if you have all the parts.
The column only if you want column shift, then you'll need the frame linkage also. The driveshaft issue depends on if you have 2 pc or one pc shaft. If you have 2 pc, then have front half remade to fit length(I think you will have to have it lengthened) and have yoke changed to fit. No biggie. If you have one piece, then you MAY have to get another, or re-tube yours if it needs lengthened.
You will also want to use V8 front springs on the suspension, I6 springs are too soft and the truck won't handle right going around corners and driving it. Trust me, I know from experience.
I did a swap (302), didnt change springs. drove it for years with the 3 speed, until it wore out. nowI'm in the process of a frame off restoration. Put in c-6. changedthe steering collum, shortened drive shaft. Had to drill 2 new holes for the transmission bracket. Iwill have to custom make fluid lines to fit.But with the cab off every thing is simple.about the springs-since I have not driven it yet with the new transmission I have know experience about that. I bought a parts truck so I have everything I needed. If it does need different springs (after I drive it for a while) I will change then, But all in all ,not tough Plus changed out brake peddle hardware My origanal motor was a 300
