You didn't say if the truck your picking up is an automatic or standard. If it's a standard you don't need to disconect the drive shaft. However if it's an auto you must disconect the drive shaft.
It's looking like a go. A freind of mine may be regearing my truck this week. This should help too. Looks like were going with a 3.73 limited slip set. Should work out good with my 30" tires. Thanks to the guys in the axle forum for the help on that. I've been looking to get rid of the 3.08 open set since I bought it last year.
Looks like I'm all set for Saturday to go get the new toy. Had my gears swapped to the 3.73's today. That should really help over the 3.08 that was in there. Haven't been able to find a dolly so I may have to take a car trailer. I went over that last night brakes/tires/lights/bearings. Don't want to drag all the extra weight but you have to do what you have to do right?
Myself, I'd rather the extra weight over the less stable tow of the dolly, and also the fact of being more secure on the trailer than the dolly. Just drive sensible and all will be fine. Depends on the triler, you may not have a terribly high weight issue, certainly worth it for the security and safety part to me. My trailer is about 1500 pounds, not too heavy, and even though it is heavier than the tow vehicle, it isn't outside the capability of the truck, but right there at the max.
I got the truck home from NYC today. Certainly a different enviroment than here on MD's eastern shore. It was a long run but fairly uneventful which is a good thing. Somewhere after the Verizano bridge the road was so deteriorated the trailer (still empty) actually got some air. It looked like a balloon on a string and was a little unsettleing. I wasn't even running that hard. I have to tip my hat to the fine people of NY for being patient. No one really wanted to follow me (can't blme them) but when I had to merge or the road was ending someone was there flashing there lights to let me in !!! Good People.
