I finally found a 9ft stepside bed for sale for my 1970 F350. The donor is a 1954 F-350. I am working under the assuption that the 4'6" x 9ft beds from 53-72 are basically the same.
Am I right or do i have to keep looking? A rapid response would be appreciated as this bed is up for grabs in a couple of days and i have to make a decicion like RIGHT NOW!!!
All comments are welcome.
PS. Thank you all, who have guided me in the right direction throughout my search for this rare item. Once again, FTE Rocks. Now if i can actually come up with the 'scratch' to pay for it. To my girlfriends dismay, i probably will though!!! I'll just have to buy her something too.
Not possitive but it should be very close if not the same. Depending on the price I would get it because this style of box is very rare and you can always resell and may be pick up a few dollars along the way if you find that it is not right. If I had to bet one way or the other I would bet yes. Just remind your girl friend that it is almost Xmas and your sure would like that for a present, ho,ho!
The rear lights are different as in shaped different, but, should work on a 1970. When looking through catalogs the brackets the lights are attached to look the same. Probably no DOT on the lamp though. One nice touch about the older ones is you can get the flex stainless steel conduit for the lamp wires.
I think all the fenders are the same as to bolt pattern and dimension with the only minor differences being the steps for the side steps. The size of my fender on my 1971 (which could have been from any year) was roughly 56L x 26H and about 24w. When they list fiberglass fenders they are usually all the same part# from the F-1 to the 1972 F-100.
I would say buy it either way, you can always sell it later at a profit if it does not fit. A nice original bed has to be worth at least $500, what a 9ft would bring I do not know.
