Have a 99 F-350, 4X4 Auto. In the last month, on two occasions the engine started fine and idled smoothly but when I put it in drive to take off, I got hardly any response from the engine. Took me almost a quarter mile to get it up to 40 MPH. Shortly after everything was fine. At no time did the motor run poorly. Everything was smooth but it seemed like no matter how much I stepped on the accelerator it would only speed up at an extremely slow rate. Fuel filter was changed 3,500 miles ago along with a new air filter. No indications of problems on the instrument panel. Truck is stock as far as I can see, I bought it used after my 96 PSD was T-boned by one of those "Blue Haired Wonders" and rolled 3 times.
My first post here but I did do a search on the problem and could find nothing. Great site.
Welcome to the site. This could be a couple of different things I suspect. If it is still cold it could be the EBPV functioning and causing the truck to be slow. If not I would suspect the accelerator position sensor going bad, Both easy fixes and that is why I start there.
i would agree with the EBPV not opening. When I first got my truck I thought it was wierd too, but I soon learned about the EBPV and realized it is normal. (when it is cold out anyway. If it is not below maybe 45 or so then it might be something else)
Thanks for the input. It really hasn't been that cold yet and I'm familiar with how diesels run when they are real cold. I'm going to go with the accelerator position sensor (throttle position sensor?) and see how it goes. Price I have found is 36.57 plus shipping.
