I thought I would bring this up. Perhaps it seems sad to me because it hits close to home. You see, that child is the same age as my daughter, she goes to the same School as my daughter, and she shares the same first name as my daughter.
I hear about this everyday. My daughter tells me about her, the problems she has, and the progress that she is making. I'm not sure what I can do, but right now my daughter is coloring a bunch of pictures to send to her at the hospital. It might help her feel better.
The reason why I asked is one year FTE users put together a drive and got laptop for someone who's son was supposedly shot and paralyzed. User dropped off the face of the planet after they got it.

That kind of stuff makes me mad more than almost anything else. Who could do such a thing? Anyway, the older sister of a close friend of mine from school was just diagnosed w/ thyroid cancer, and now the oldest brother has it too apparently. Kind of a double shot of bad news right at the holidays, eh? So if you guys can kind of think of them too, I'd appreciate it. It's supposed to be 95% beatable though, so that's good. Hope that poor girl gets a great Christmas present.
My son has been in the PICU at Children's Mercy in KC twice. The sadness and despair you witness in a children's intensive care unit is enough to make a grown man cry. I almost felt guilty when we have left with our child in a more or less whole condition while other parents we have met and made friends with were left behind with no hope of ever taking their child home.
Because of all the scammers and a wish to help, the Ronald McDonald house gets my biggest donation every year. The first time we were there they helped us out in more ways then can be imagined. Because children's hospitals are few and far between families could have traveled hundreds of miles to be there and usually with little or no notice. The first time we had to go it was at 10:00 pm, my wife was on the plane with our son and I hit the road at 90+ for over two hours. We arrived with no change of clothes and me with only $20.00 cash in my pocket. The Ronald McDonald house provided us with a place to stay, laundry and meals. Without their help an already stressful situation would have been near unbearable.
I was born with a "ventricular-septal defect" - in short, a hole in the wall of my heart that separates the right and left sides. I couldn't walk across a room without turning blue and passing out. I spent the first four years being carried everywhere and unable to play like the other kids.
Then thanks to Alaska Crippled Children and some other organizations, I was able to have open heart surgery at Kansas City Medical Center and now I am a professional firefighter!
There are a lot of scammers and would-be hard luck cases out there to be sure, but there are also a lot of good agencies and organizations too...the trouble is separating the chaff from the wheat!
As stated in another thread, my own sister has cancer, and it's been diagnosed as terminal. I posted a couple of links in regards to folding, which is a program you can install on your pc, and let your idle cpu time be used for cancer research, as well as various other, thus far, incure-able diseases. I donate to cancer research every year, as well as donate my time to local fund raisers for cancer as well. Praying for someone, if you're of the religious inclination, or just simply wishing someone a good thought for the day are all good things to do.
I can see where members would be pretty ticked off at someone who just ran a scam on them, and then disappeared. There are other methods of supporting such people, without getting taken to the cleaners, and even if something such as this were to prove to be a scam, at least real people, with real problems end up benefitting. Just my two cents worth. I too, feel for any child who suffers from an illness that keeps them bed-ridden, and in the hospital all the time. Kids are way to innocent to suffer this way, and it always breaks my heart to hear of such.
OK, I started this thread just to more or less say that it was a sad situation & I didn't know what I could do to help her. My Daughter & Son were coloring pictures to send to her with the idea that it may help her feel better & put a smile on her face.
No where was it stated that I was asking for money or asking you to send them money. I did come up with a idea though, I decided to post some auctions on eBay with most of the money will go to them after all ebay, paypal fees were paid.
I kindly asked Dennis (Mil1on) via PM if it was OK to post a link in my signature for those auction. Dennis said I would have to get approval from Ken (webmaster). He posted his answer above. I assume it was a no so I didn't mention anything further about it & I was OK about that.
Now what really ****es me off, is the facted that somehow this became associated with scamming. I am not a scammer, but everyone has their own opinion.
I finally figured out a way to where I can help a little girl that is need & I feel ridiculed for it.
