Another "No Complaints" posting...

Hi all,

Finally had some time to type, and thought I would add my thoughts to the plate...

I've had my '04 for about two months now, and finally got it up to 1,100 miles. So far, this truck has been an absolute pleasure. I have not had a single engine issue, and the trans and all other major mechanicals seem to be breaking in just fine.

My last truck...gasp..an '01 Dodge with a Cummins, is the most recent comparison...and there is NO COMPARISON! The '04 SD has gobs more power, the chassis feels much more solid, the interior is a lot nicer, and the looks are hands down the winner. I am so satisfied with this combo, that the only thing I plan on doing is changing the gear ratios to 4.56's or maybe 4.88's, since I have 38" tires with the lift.

I had my first towing experience recently, and it was unbelievable compared to my last truck. I tow a 6.5 x 12 tandem utility trailer with my two quads on it, and the total weight is about 2,200 lbs., plus a few things in the truck bed. I almost forgot the trailer was there, even with these taller 3.73 gears and tall tires! I got the trailer bottomed out in some recently churned up sand at Glamis Dunes. I was able to drag the trailer to a better area of hard pack sand, and I did not even bog the SD down in the process. I can only picture how good it will be with better gearing.

I will be doing my first oil change soon, and I'm sticking with my old stand-by of Chevron Delo 15-40w for now... then maybe a synthetic after a few more miles...

Sorry for long post. We often have many negative posts on here, which are necessary for us all to benefit from the provided data, but I don't think we see enough of the "good" stories.

Take care everyone, and have a good holiday season.

JJ

Good to hear. I love mine so far too. I have 12K on mine and she sputters a bit when she's cold but warms up fine. Its farted a puff of white smoke once but cleared right up and hasn't done it again.
I wouldn't go any lower gearing than 4.56 the 6.0 has good power stock but little lite in the britches down low. Add a tuner or a box to it and its a whole new truck.
But won't have any probs carrying that load you have with 38"s with 4.56, you might can get by with 4.30ish gears.

Thank you very much for your positive comments as some fail to recognize that the good 6.0s exist in the majority.

A good and safe Holiday Season to you also.

jjgi5150,

It is good to read positive posts on a "Ford Truck Enthusiasts" forum. Even when problems arise, I have eventually gotten satisfaction from the dealer and Ford.

I know what 5150 means, gi is military?
