I have a new 05 6.0 excursion and I have noticed sometimes when I back up my driveway that my tranny or posi rear end is slipping. It feels like a slipping clutch. This can happen on long or short trips with or without a trailer. Only happens about once or twice a month.
This happened to me once, it was just this past summer when I was backing my brother-in-law's boat into the driveway. The boat is only a 19' fiberglass, very light. The trans slipped in reverse once, then I put it in drive to straighten out and never saw it happen again. I pulled the boat 60-70 miles after fishing. It was a 60 or 70 mile trip to the bay earlier that day. I'm sure the truck completely cooled off between trips, we were on the water for at least 8 hours and it was a cool, rainy overcast day.
My truck is a 2001 X PSD (7.3) 4x4 LTD- no posi, regular 3.73 rear. Wish I had the limited slip diff.
Good luck figuring this one out.
