i have a 86 f150 5.0. it does not want to turn over i checked all the connections, and replaced the selonoid. that did not work, then i put a volt meter on the battery and it reads 11.02v should that be strong enough to make it turn over. thanks
Assuming you are sure all connections are good, clean and tight.........
If you jumper the solenoid, does it do anything? ( remove little push on and jumper with screwdriver to hot lead) If it tries to run then, bad ignition switch. ( Actual electric switch on top of the column under the dash, not teh key part)
If still nothing, then charge the battery to full or get jumped and see. Volts don't necessarily mean you have amps to crank it. a 1 volt drop in voltage could be a few hundred cranking amps.
If a full charged battery won't crank it, then try starter but usually they at least try.
As for Chevy - Only if you dont mind big huge puddles of oil in your driveway and something that is near impossible to work on. I can do Ford brakes in 15 minutes. It took us 4 hours to do a Chevy a few months back.
Yes, 11 volts is to low. Charge the battery, or take it to one of the auto stores and have it tested. If it's four or five years old, consider a new battery.
thanks for the reply. yes i did jump the solenoid, but the solenoid was just clicking, i put the handy dandy volt meter on the battery while jumping the solenoid adn the voltage went down to nothing. my truck is in the garage nose first so i can not jump it, hard enough to drive it in and out. i'll try a new battery and see if that works. thanks again. oh and as far as the chevy thing go's, i would rather drive a bicycle!!! .
whats so bad about chevy's? the small block 350 is one of the simplest and easyest engines ive ever worked on. ive got a 89 Trans am GTA with a 5.7L (carbed) and its been the most reliable car ive ever owned. even right now in below zero temperatures it fires up on the first turn of the key and i can throw it in drive right away without any stalling or rough idleing. i never really liked fords, but now that i own one i see that really if an engine runs like crap its because of poor maintenance and not because of the brand.
