Thumbs down Bed spacing

I just bought a 1978 f250 SuperCab 4x4. The bed on the truck is WAY too close to the cab. Here are some pictures:

Anyway, I posted this in here because it is seriously hindering my wanting to take it off road. It already has a big dent and I'd like to damage my sheetmetal for a better cause. It is not the original bed because they had fuel doors on 78 models. I don't understand how it got this way other than the bed was installed wrong. Any suggestions?

Loosen the mounting hardware, slide bed rearward, tighten mounting hardware. Simple.

Just move it back a couple inches, thats what ive had to do with my 79, mine also needs to be moved to the right a half inch or so. Good luck getting the bed bolts out, the can be a royal pain.

someone could have been trying to "clean the look up" and moved the bed up to get a smaller gap so you might just have to move it back to the old holes

It could be there because someone had a heavy load, hit the brakes, and the bed moved forward from the hit. As someone else already said, just loosen the bolts and move the bed backwards. If you do not, you are right, the frame will flex and cause a wear spot and rust your cab out.
